Here is the link to the US Patent and Trademark Office’s help section for applying for and receiving patents. http://www.uspto.gov/main/patents.htmParticularly, here is the page for “How to Get a Patent”.http://www.uspto.gov/web/patents/howtopat.htmYour first step is to find a good patent attorney who will help you with the process of protecting your invention while waiting for your application to be approved. You may search for patent attorneys here:http://des.uspto.gov/OEDCI/Best of luck!
Dear sirYou can patent your idea or invention but it needs money as it involves several procedures before a patent is obtained. These include the identification of invention disclosures that are necessary for filing a patent, analysing these invention disclosures for patentability, preparing and filing a patent application, and responding to any objection that the patent office raises with respect to the granting of the filed patent. And it involes lot of money. So it is good for nothing also their are many hidden costs. Like attorney who files paper on your behalf. So it is good only for large organisations. Once patent is granted you need to renew it annually and is valid for 25 years after that any body can use it.If some large organisation sponser you then you can do that.I don’t want to discourage you but if you feel that you have to do it then you must do some research on the patent filing and its pros and cos, so that you can get good information the subject.good Luck
is it an ultrasound probe? they’ve already got those on the market.
HelloBecause you are in India you need to file a patent on your invention as soon as possible. It’s as simple as that. For small inventors outside the USA with little money one solution to this problem is to file a provisional patent. But the phrase “provisional patent” is actually a misnomer. It is not a real patent application, it is simply document that buys the inventor one year of time in which to file their patent applications. During that one year the inventor needs to find the funding for the real patent applications. However I also have a note of caution with the provisional patent process. It can be problematic if the invention disclosed in real patent application (i.e. the nonprovisional application) is different from the one in the provisional application. How different? Not much actually. If during the year you have made an improvement to the invention that could support its own patent over the one described in the provisional patent then the patent office could rule that the real application can’t have the benefit of the earlier provisional patent filing date. For this reason many patent practioners don’t advise provisional applications. They advise that you should spend the extra money to file a real patent application (i.e. the nonprovisional application) instead.Of course you will need to hire a professional to help you file your application.Other people here on Yahoo! Answers disagree this and will advise you to do the patent work yourself; however, I have yet to find an example of a case where a successful inventor also patented their invention by themselves or filed their own provisional application. In fact I have posted this very question (”Can anyone give me an example of a successful invention where the inventor was also his own patent attorney?”) here on Yahoo! Answers to see someone will answer it. At present I have not received an adequate answer from anyone.Good Luck
