Copyright question: Should I send my songs to labels right after I send my songs to the copyright registration office? The problem is, it takes at least 4 months from what I’ve read, for a confirmation mail to come back. It’s also very, very expensive ($45 USD) to send your work to the registration office. Also, bad things do happen. this is a law of the universe. for some reason, maybe the mail didn’t arrive in the copyright registration offices. So should I wait four months to get my confirmation mail and then send my songs to labels? Should I not wait and just send my songs to labels right after I send my songs to the registration office?

  1. To be covered by copyright a work must be original and in a concrete “medium of expression.” See ยง 102 of the The U.S. Copyright Act. Under current law, works are covered whether or not a copyright notice is attached and whether or not the work is registered.http://www.law.cornell.edu/wex/index.php/Copyrighthttp://www.law.cornell.edu/treaties/berne/overview.htmlhttp://www.templetons.com/brad/copymyths.html
