are burned cds illegal in the USA?
By Yahoo User • Category: Copyrights in USAgreetings, I’m planning to go to the states for the holidays to visit some of my relatives… I’ve eversince sticked to my discman and never bought a digital/flash mp3 player like ipod… my songs are compiled in a couple of cds; burned.. I know that legal copyright issues are very strict in the US.. and I might be deemed as a pirate in the immigration..these cds are of my personal use.. and I bought the music over the net..I’ll probably just bring ONE cd….. everything of my favorites would be compiled there.. in that way, it maybe wouldn’t bother them much thinking of it being “illegal”?some of my songs are from the original cds….I’ll probably just bring ONE cd….. everything of my favorites would be compiled there.. in that way, it maybe wouldn’t bother them much thinking of it being “illegal”?some of my songs are from the original cds….
prove that you bought them on the net.. with credit card summaries or whatever you used for payment. shouldn’t have a prob.. plus i dont think they’re THAT strict either..
you can only legally copy ONE time from your own personal purchased stock. if you legally downloaded songs, you are allowed to burn them to CD. There is no way they can prove anything if you bring them into the country. Unless they are wrapped looking like they are for sale
they could be considered illegal and be considered as copyright violations, better to just leave them at home.good luck
no, let’s say you bought a cd from a shop and then you want to make a back up in case you break the original one or lost it.but what i suggest to you is that you rip the music high quality 320kbps and load them onto your ipod or what so you dont have to carry actual cds around.otherwise if you just need to take the music with you and not listen to it, burn the mp3s onto a dvd so you minimise the amount of discs you carry.
If you have the right to copy them they are fine, for your personal use. If you download them illegally, not so much.
If you are bringing in ONE or even five cds with compilations of your songs on them, you are OK. 1. No one will even ask you about them 2. Personal use of music you own is not a violation of copyright, even when placed on another media type.3. The ‘punishment’ at Customs for that amount, couple of cds, would be to confiscate and destroy them. Not arrest you and charge you. 4. If you HAD bought an IPOD, do you think they would be combing through your selection to check for valid downloads?
In the USA, everything is illegal
