Is it illegal to download music using limewire in Canada?
By Yahoo User • Category: Copyrights in CanadaSome say that it is just illegal for copyrighted music, what is copyrighted and what is not, and is this actually the case?So it isn’t illegal? So what is considered copyrighted and what is not?
NOits not anywhereits a file shareing program and totally legal
The last time I checked, it ISN’T illegal to download music in Canada…because we pay a tax on blank cds and the whatnot to compensate?
Technically speaking…..no, it is not illegal to download the information, but if you share it with others then it is. (I work for a local internet service provider and we have to send out letters to customers who are sharing files - but the people downloading the files can’t be held accountable due to the way the laws have been written.) I highly recommend not getting in the habit of downloading copyrighted files, as the laws could change at any time.
It is illegal eerywhere, but its just that most countriesdon’tcare about it too much, unlike the U.S. which whatches out for it more. I on’t know whether Canada enforces it or not, but it is still illegal and stealing
All you need to know is that in the Canadian Copyright Act, there is a part where a levy (a fee) is applied to every piece of blank media sold in Canada. The blank media can be cd roms, cassette tapes, or flash cards. Because of this fee, part of the copyright law has been relaxed in Canada meaning that anyone is allowed to freely use and copy music in Canada however they want as long as it is for their private use only. So download all you want, it’s fine. But if you upload music somewhere, or even make a copy for a friend, then that is no longer for your private use, and you are then doing something illegal.
