do I need copyright permission to reprint something from a blog if the blog doesn’t say it is copyrighted?

By Yahoo User • Category:

I am writing a book and have found some great information on various blogs. I don’t know if i need permission as with other web site to use the posted information, and the blogs I found have no web site user policy or other legal information to guide me.If anyone knows where I can find the answer that would be great. I need it ASAP.Thanks.

  1. Yes …Its always good to take permission from the author. If you are in a hurry and cant wait for his permission (and as long as you are not going to make money out of using the stuff) you can publish the content, giving credit to the author with the link to the blog.I blog regularly, and as a blogger, would not mind if you use my content as long as you give me credit for it.Also, I dont think anybody would mind as long as you give the author the credit.

  2. Probably not if it really is not copyrighted anywhere, but you would have to credit the source. Off of blogs, it is also possible the the original source of the material does have a copyright notice so you need to be careful claiming that there is not a copyright. If it were me I would have written permission just to cover the bases. I doubt a publisher would want to publish without it. They don’t like copyright fights.

  3. Even though the blog doesn’t say the material is copyrighted, the ethical thing to do is to send the writer an email asking for permission to reprint the content. The author may want it reprinted exactly as written with credit given to him or her. This would give the author increased exposure. Or the answer could be no. Either way, it only takes a couple of seconds to send the email.

  4. Yes, DRM says you have to. According to Computer Software Owners, you do not own anything made with or useing thier software. Some Open Source is getting together, but far as most Corps go, pay or see you in court. Plus you just cant CPY/PST a book, its called Plagerism.
