If I take direct quotes from newspapers and compile them into a book, do I need copyright permission?
By Yahoo User • Category:The newspapers will range from two hundred years ago to yesterday.I would like to publish this book. Are newspaper articles copyrighted?I don’t want to steal anything. I will give full descriptions of where I got info. My question is “Do I have to have their written permission to use their quotes or is showing my source adequate?”
are you going to professionally publish them? because i think you do. if it’s for a class, you obviously need to cite where you got the quotes, because it is plagiarism…no matter how old!
For the copyrighted material, yes.
YES because otherwise you’d be taking the credit as your own writing.
yes
Yes, you do. However, once obtained, you would be able to assert your own copyright in the collection, as long as you have demonstrated at least some level of creativity in selecting and arranging the contents.
