I am writing a book and would like to reference real URLs like cnn.com…do I need their copyright permission?

  1. if it is included as a refrence as in bibliography no, because if you steal there ideas or format it is plagerism, used in a ficticious scenario i do not know.

  2. You just need to cite them properly.I’d google MLA or APA formats to see the proper way….

URLs can not be copyrighted, although they may be trademarked.In general, if you are using the using URLs to refer to an actual website, you don’t need the permission of the owner.Likewise, you don’t need the permission of The Coca Cola Company to write something like “James bought a Coke at the store”, and you don’t need J.K. Rowling’s permission to write “Jane read ‘Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire’.”However, if the URL is trademarked, you can’t start your own website or business and call it “cnn.com”.
